Harley Wolfarth walks us through the steps to embedding videos into email during this week's Tech Tuesday video.

Video Transcription

Hello, and welcome to another edition of Tech Tuesday, presented by Delta Media Group, where we know that even though Malcolm was the captain, really, Wash was the heart and soul of the crew. So today, we are going to go in and take a look at kind of a lesser-known feature in the DeltaNET, we kind of snuck this one in under the radar. But what it is, is a functionality that allows you to sort of embed videos into emails. We get this question pretty frequently, just, how can I take a video and send it to somebody as an email? Well, as it turns out, email, in general, doesn't really support embedded video. So even if you were to embed it properly in the email content itself, the recipients will often not actually see the video, like, their email host will strip that out. So we've come up with a way that you can easily add a video to an email that kind of functions as a workaround there.

So, first off, this functionality exists in all of the different kind of customizable email-sending features in the DeltaNET. So that includes... and we'll go ahead and run through a couple of them here. If I go to marketing in DeltaNET 6, and go over here to manage campaigns... or I can just type campaigns up here in the search bar, and that'll bring up the quick action for it. Or if you are in DeltaNET 5 or 5.1, you would go to customers and then down to campaigns and action plans. Anyone of those ways will take you to this page, where you can manage your campaigns.

One of the things you can do with any custom campaign is you can add an email to it. So I'll just pick a random one here and I'll say, new email or action, and then hit new email. And this allows me to create an email here. Now, in this email editor, in the WYSIWYG editor here, I have the ability to sort of embed a video. So what I'll do is I'll just put the cursor where I want my video to show up and we'll say we want it right at the beginning. Check out my video. Hello, here we go. Put my cursor down one line, and I'm going to go to insert, and then down to media. And then for source, I'm going to paste in the URL of my YouTube video. So, I already have a video open over here, just as a bit of a time saver. And if I go up to my address bar, that is the video URL, so I'm just going to copy that, and we'll go back into the DeltaNET and paste it and then hit OK. And you can see, it drops in the video.

Now, what it's done is it hasn't actually dropped the video in, instead, it has grabbed the thumbnail or like the screenshot of the video, and really it's the thumbnail, as defined by YouTube, and puts that image in the email. But this video image will link to the YouTube page. So it was really simple for me to add this in here, so now I would just hit publish if I want to save this email. And then when this campaign email goes out to its recipients, they will get an email that has this picture in the middle of it, and if they click on it, it'll take them through to YouTube, where they can actually view the video. So, it doesn't embed the video, but it makes it real easy for you to kind of share videos with your customers that way.

Now, this is just what the interface looks like in the campaign system, but the same thing will work for any email blasts or any email that's sent directly to a customer. So if I were to go here to message blasts and mail merge, also under marketing... or I could do the same thing if I went up here to the search bar and just typed in, blast, it would give me a link to the email blast interface. Or in DeltaNET 5, it's under customers and email blasts. So we'll click on email blasts, there we go. So here's our interface, and as we scroll down, this is the same WYSIWYG editor, so it works in the same way. Insert media, paste in my video URL, hit okay. And there it is. And then like sending any other email blast, I would set my recipients up up here, give it a subject and then hit send, and that would send out my email.

Now, lastly, if I just wanted to send this to a specific customer, I can also go to my customer center, so I can go under CRM and click on customer center here. And from here, that would be under customer's, customer center in DeltaNET 5, by the way. And I have a button here under actions that says email customers. So if I click on that, again, it brings up this interface, I can put my recipients up here. And with the same WYSIWYG editor, insert media, paste it in, and it will work exactly the same way. It just drops in that video thumbnail, and then when they get the email and click on it, it'll take them through to your YouTube channel, or specifically to the YouTube page for this video.

So there you have it. That is how you can go in and you can quickly and easily embed a video, more or less, into an email, so that you can share that video out with your customers, either as like a one-off, just sending an email to the customer, or sending out a blast email to multiple customers in bulk, or setting it up in a campaign, so that it just goes out automatically. So that's all there is to it. So as always, thanks a lot for joining me this week. If you have any questions, comments, concerns, feel free to send an email into support@deltagroup.com or give us a call, and we will be happy to help you out with whatever you need. So thanks a lot for joining me, and I will see you again next week.
