In this video, Harley Wolfarth demonstrates the new Speech to Text functionality in the DeltaNET® CRM.

Good morning and welcome to another edition of Tech Tuesday presented by Delta Media Group, where though our computers can usually beat us at chess, they're terrible at kickboxing. So today we are going to take a look at some new functionality that we have added to the DeltaNet that is speech to text functionality. Specifically it lets you record a customer note by speaking into your microphone and it will automatically transcribe what you say into a customer note. At this point, this functionality only works on the desktop browser Chrome, so Google Chrome. It doesn't work in Firefox or Safari or anything at this point, but we'll see as more support gets added for this. So for now, if you're doing it on a desktop, you have to use Chrome.

In order to create one of these, what we'll do is go to a customer profile page. In DeltaNet Five or Six, you can get to a customer profile page in a number of ways. You can either go to their customer center or go to your customer center and then find the customer there and click on their name. Or you can type their name up here in this multi search farm. We can see we've got a customer down here. So I would just click on view customer info to get to their profile page or in DeltaNet Six, one of the default tiles here under CRM is manage customer. So I can click on that and type their name in there and just click on them. That will also take me to their customer profile page.

Now from here, you can see we've got our notes section over here. So all we need to do to create a new note is we'll click on add new note and you'll notice that there is now a little microphone icon up here in the corner. To do this, all I'm going to do is click on this microphone and then whatever I say will get transcribed into the message. Just keep in mind that the first time you click on this, or tap on this if you're on a mobile device, you'll need to grant your web browser permissions to access your microphone. If you're using a laptop, it probably has a built in microphone. If you're using a mobile device for this, this should work on Chrome on Android devices and I believe it will also work on Chrome on Apple devices. In any of those devices, when you go in here and tap on it the first time it'll have your grant permissions and then after that, it should just work for you.

I'm going to go ahead and click on it. I'm just going to say that this is my new note and check out my note for my really cool customer that I just talked to and great things happened. There we go. I didn't come up with the greatest note there on the spot. However, you can see that it just picked up whatever I said and recorded it. The one thing I will also add to this is that it will turn off automatically after a pause. It gives you a second or two to pause. If you don't know what you're going to save for your note ahead of time, it may cut you off in the middle and you might have to click it again. Just as an example, I'm leaving this customer note. If I pause while I'm leaving this customer note, the recording will stop automatically and there you go. So at that point, if I had paused for... And you saw how long it took between the time I stopped talking and the time it dropped in the note. If I had paused in the middle of a paragraph there, I would have to click this again to restart with that. Just something to be aware of as you're using the speech to text functionality to record your customer notes.

That is all there is to it. From there, I'm just going to go down here. I can select my note category, just like with any other regular note. If, for example, I had just called the customer and I was recording a note about that call, I could select call here under category, click on done. Now you can see that was a call note. These are the notes that I left or the notes that I recorded with speech to text.
