Good morning, and welcome to Tech Tuesday presented by Delta Media Group, where we come to the stark realization that there's no crying in baseball. So today, I'm gonna get in to something complicated. Warning you about this up front, we're gonna get technical in this episode. It doesn't always pan out well for us, but I think we'll be alright. So, follow a long, I think we'll be fine.

So, what we're gonna go over today is how you can set up a Facebook messenger widget on your home page and on your website in general, so that if a customer comes to your webpage, they can click a little link and it will ... not really a link, but a little widget icon, it'll pop up at a chat interface, and then they can actually chat with you through Facebook messanger. So, the idea is it's like a freely available live chat interface for your website. The nice thing is it also all works through your Facebook account, so you don't have to do anything special or have any special apps, it just works through what you probably already have.

So, let's go in to the DeltaNet and see how to set this thing up. So we're in the DeltaNet, this is the regular welcome page here, and ultimately we're gonna be adding code to the custom code tool in the DeltaNet. So, you can find that under Website and Custom Code. And you can see that I got a little bit of code already set up in here that was actually some test code that I set up for this site. I'll go ahead and get rid of that. There we go. And we're gonna add fresh new code here. So, this is what the page will look like when you first get here.

So, the first thing we have to do is go and get the code that we need to add. So, to do that, you'll go to Facebook, log in to your Facebook account. This is just the personal page for a test account that I have setup. And what you need to do is go in to your business page. So, to do that, I'm gonna click the arrow up here. It should say, "Your page is here," and you'll be able to choose your business page from here, as long as you have access to edit your business page. So, we'll click on that, let it think about it. There we are.

So, now I'm looking at my business page, you can tell that I put a lot of effort into this business page by not adding a cover photo or a profile photo, but it'll work for the sake of argument here. And what we need to do now, is go into settings for this page. So, keep in mind this is not your account settings, this is the actual page settings for this business page. So, I am not gonna go up and go down to Settings, I'm gonna click on Settings right here. So, this brings up my page settings, and now from her I need to go down and find Messenger Platform. So, you can see that's about halfway down the list here. I guess not quite halfway, maybe a third of the way down the list.

So, click on Messenger Platform, and now we're gonna scroll down. Now, I could either click on Customer Chat Plugin and it will take me down to that section, or the page isn't very long if we just scroll down here. You have Customer Chat Plugin, so we'll hit Setup, and it brings up a little wizard, so add messanger to you website, get you some information. We'll just click on Next. We can customize what we want our greeting message to be. So, what this is going to be when somebody first clicks on the widget icon down here, it's gonna pop up whatever our welcome message is.

So, I'll go ahead and click Change. See if it'll let me change it. That's a good welcome message, right? Okay, so we have our welcome message set up, so we'll click on Next. We can now decide if we want to tell people when to expect a response here. So, by default it will automatically set a response time. So, as we start replying to messages and things, it will work out what it expects my response time to be. If we want to tell them that we'll typically respond instantly when somebody uses this, you can select that, of if you feel like your customers, whenever they use this, can expect a reply within minutes or hours, you can choose those different options there.

So, for now, I'll just leave this on automatic and I can also a custom color here, so I'll go ahead and switch that to On, and let's go with orange. I like orange. Why not? There we go, click Next, and now here is the code, but we can't just grab it and paste it in yet. The first thing we have to do is basically authorize our website to display what this code will try to display. So, in order to do that, we have to add our website's domain. Now, it's looking at the primary domain, so the biggest thing here is it's gonna be a little different for everybody, but everybody will have a sub domain of the company website in general. So, for example, if my company's domain is companywebsite.com, the key is that I make sure companywebsite.com is authorized here.

So, I'll go ahead and go back here, and I'll go to Website, and then Overviews, hit Preview Website. So, this is the domain of my website. If I had a custom domain setup as primary, like HarleysRealestate.com, that's what would come up and that's the domain I'd want to authorize. Also, you want to make sure that it's authorized for, if you're domain would be secured, you want to make sure that that's authorized. So, the best bet ... I'll just go ahead and copy that. So, that is just the domain, not the extra stuff, just the hdemo2.dmgdemo.com, so HarleysRealestate.dmgdemo.com. I'll go back into our Facebook settings here, paste in our domain, and what I found, because it's looking at that primary domain, we want to make sure that we also cover www and just the primary domain. So, there we go.

So, if you need any help with this, feel free to reach out to us because we realize that this gets to be a little complicated here, but if you have a custom domain, so if had Harleysrealestate.com, I would want to put in www.harleysrealestate.com, would be one of my choices, and just harleysrealestate.com would be my other choice, and that should be enough. Since I'm using a domain through a company domain, so hdemo2.copanydomain.com, basically. I want to cover that one and I also want to do www.mycompanydomain.com and just mycompanydomain.com. And each one of these it'll have that http in front of it, because this is not secured domain. If yours was, it would be https. So, you'll want to make sure that that's an https there in the front, but by just copying and pasting it from your website, from the address bar when you're on your homepage, you should be fine there.

So, like I said, if you run into trouble with that, feel free to contact us and we can help you out there. So, got those all set up, so I'll just hit Save. That saves all the domains I've authorized. I don't want to install the code myself, since we're not gonna email this out to a developer, you're just go ahead and put it in, and this is all the code we want. So, we just click on it, it's copied to our clipboard, and now we can hit Finish, and Done. So, now when we go back into the DeltaNet, we're gonna go back to that custom code tools. So, Website, Custom Code. We are going to Add a New Custom Code Snippet. And you can see there's a warning here at the top that it is possible to break things with this tool. Forget about that for now, and we'll go down and we'll give this snippet of code a title. So, this is just something to name it so we can identify it.

So, we'll call it "Facebook messanger plugin.' We want this one to show up at the end of the body, we want it to cover all the domains through which our site can be accessed if we have multiple, so we just put a star there. We want it to show up on all the pages on our website, so we'll just put a star there, and that's just an asterisk, so I'm just hitting "shift 8" to put that asterisk there. And in Content, we just paste in our code. So now, click Submit. That codes been added to our site, and now we cross our fingers, we click Preview Website, and as long as we authorized our domains correctly, there we go. Got a little messenger plugin down there in the bottom. You can see my little welcome message, my custom welcome message which you can customize in any way you want.

So, if I'm a customer, I can come in here, if I don't like this I can close it and move on. If I do like it, I can just click on Chat Now. That will take me in ... I have to sign in to my Facebook page to be able to chat there, so it wants me to sign in to Facebook, and once I'm signed in, I'm now chatting through my Facebook account. Why do I always put a W after hello? So, there you go. I type it in, now that showed up in my messanger over here. So, I have a notification, I just got a message, "Hello." If I click on that, it brings up my little chat interface in Facebook, and this will work on your phone as well through the Facebook ... I think it works through actually the Facebook business page manager app on your phone, but you'll be able to see once you send a message through there where it comes up, but ... there we go. Just a live chat back and forth.

So, alright? I said it was gonna be a little technical at the beginning, but that wasn't too bad wat it? I think we all made it to the end. Alright, so as always, thanks a lot for joining me.
